"Monsieur Verdoux" presents a new Chaplin, a Chaplin inclined to be more like Charles than Charlie, and playing a more or less straight comedy part instead of just playing himself. The character of Verdoux was inspired by Thomas Wainwright and Henri Landru. The four female characters are played by Isobel Elsom, Martha Raye, Barbara Slater, Marilyn Nash.
