Chaplin has exchanged his bowler hat, cane and baggy trousers for the dapper elegance of a modern Bluebeard in his latest film "Monsieur Verdoux". Nothing can prevent the final message from being embarrassing in its false sentimentality and wholly unconvincing. Excellent performances by Martha Raye, Marilyn Nash and Barbara Slater.
