A first amicable agreement was offered in October 1958. Rachel Ford was appointed representative of the Roy Export Company on 7th March 1955. "Monsieur Verdoux" was property of the Chaplin Studios and then of Chaplin as of 4th December 1953; like all other films, it became property of the Roy Export Company as of 8th December 1955.
