[Letter] 1950 March 15, New York [to] Lois C. Runser / Arthur W. Kelly - ECCI00018137

During the German occupation, Les Artistes Associes was put out of business and all its prints were seized. Some were converted back into raw stock by some chemical process. Other pre-war prints were stolen, sold and illegally shown in the Western part of France and shipped to the French Colonies, particularly to Africa. A print of "Modern Times" was stolen under German requisition and exploited after the Liberation. The man holding the print was later caught by the French Police and the print was destroyed.
