The typewritten document includes hand-written pages with Chaplin's ms. comments and notes. The screenplay is an adaptation of Paul Vincent Carroll's 1934 drama "Shadow and Substance". The story takes place on the outskirts of a small Irish town. A devout, ingenuous girl, Brigid, works in the parochial residence of Reverend Thomas Cannon Skerritt, and has visions of St. Brigid.
