Incomplete screenplay with Chaplin's ms. corrections and amendments. The missing pages are replaced by sheets bearing the same page number. The screenplay is an adaptation of Paul Vincent Carroll's 1934 drama "Shadow and Substance". The story takes place on the outskirts of a small Irish town. A devout, ingenuous girl, Brigid, works in the parochial residence of Reverend Thomas Cannon Skerritt, and has visions of St. Brigid.
