Claudette Colbert has announced she will retire from the screen as an actress to make her debut as a director. Women directors have not fared too well in Hollywood. In the old silent days Wanda King was one of Hollywood's fast-working comedy directors. Her slapstick comedies were forerunners of Mack Sennet's and Chaplin's one and two-reel masterpieces.
