City Lights, 1931 - ECCI00017543

The clippings are included in a press release file on Charles Chaplin collected by Arnold Sobel. "City Lights" was conceived, designed and made as a silent film, with no attempt to add dialogue sequences or any sound other than a simple musical score. Despite the film's rather melancholy theme, the death of Chaplin's mother and a difficult relationship with the leading lady, Virginia Cherrill, the film has some grand comedy.
