Chaplin's America / by our film critic Alex Walker - ECCI00011035

"A King in New York" is a comedy of disillusionment. Part of the film is an attack on the forces which drove him abroad, in particular McCarthyism. Obviously the intention is satirical. There is a sense of personal spleen throughout the film. What happened to Charlie the clown, the superb mimic?
